Perhaps jury duty is at its end for me. There are only two days left. I went in this morning and here's what I journaled while waiting in the assembly room.
OK, it's 9:45, 45 minutes past the time we originally expected to be called up to the courtroom. There are about 30 of us waiting around. Personally, I'm guessing that the lawyers are working on a last minute plea. I won't be surprised if we're all sent home before 10:30.
I have been irritated with the process up to today. Now I'm feeling a bit more at peace with it. Maybe it's just because I finally made it back to the jury assembly room, although I would hope that I'm not quite that shallow. If our mere presence here aids justice somehow, then I'm satisfied with the use of my time.
I thought it was more than coincidental, however, that my reading in "The Imitation of Christ" included a chapter on not judging others lightly. I figured that God was getting me ready to sit in on a trial this week.
Yesterday I was among those on standby for a possible afternoon trial. They didn't need us after all. There doesn't seem to be much certainty in the scheduling of the judiciary.
The judge just came down and informed us that the case has been set aside while the defendant seeks an appeal on a ruling. We won't be the ones to hear this case! Back to work...
Mental noodling on issues close to my heart.
